Bursa Malaysia opened lower after weak performance of the global market and declining oil prices.

The benchmark FTSE KLCI was down 7.97 points to 1,689.04 from previous day close of 1697. Market breadth was negative as losers led gainers 226 to 391 while 1307 counters were unchanged.

Among heavyweights, Maybank down eight sen to RM9.58, Public Bank lost four sen to RM24.78, Tenaga was flat at RM13.58, Petronas Chemicals was down 26 sen to RM8.36 and CIMB fell one sen to RM5.65.

Eduspec Holdings Bhd share rose to in trade after proposed private placement shares at two sen. The underwriter Kenanga Investment Bank said the price of two sen per share constitutes a discount of 8.26% to the average price.

Hartalega Holdings, which rose more than 12 pct over the past two weeks, could decline, as major technical analysts have initiated a negative view.

Penang-based Suiwah Corp Bhd rose as much as 65 sen after it had received a privatization offer from its major shareholder Suiwah Holdings Sdn Bhd (SHSB). The Hwang family, which holds a 30.91% stake in Suiwah, is looking to take the company private at RM2.80 per share.

Global Market

Global stock markets mainly US markets witnessed lower closing after computer peripherals major Nvidia and construction engineering equipment Caterpillar warned about weak Chinese demand.

The dollar fell against major cross peers as traders awaiting the Federal Reserve’s two-day policy meeting ending Wednesday and the results of U.S.-China trade talks this week.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 208.98 points, or 0.84 percent, to 24,528.22. The S&P 500 lost 20.91 points, or 0.78 percent, to 2,643.85 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 79.18 points, or 1.11 percent, to 7,085.69.
